Every actor has a brand, and every brand has a market.

In this four-week course, actors will come away with a deeper understanding of the film and television business, where they fit, and how to get in front of the right industry folks to thrive - all while learning on-camera and audition technique from a working actor and experienced director.

Chris Russell is an actor, screenwriter, and director. He has been working in the industry for the better part of 10 years. Recent TV credits include Hulu's Wu-Tang: An American Saga, HBO's The Deuce, and NBC's Law and Order: SVU. While working on TV is a gift and a blessing, Chris' true passion lies in creating his own work and coaching actors. He has been on the faculty of MCS for over two years, teaching his 4-week on-camera course, private sessions, and coaching self-tapes. Last summer, he wrote, directed and starred in a six-episode series, Flyering, which features an army of MCS actors (including Coach Matt Corozine) and is available to stream at

The Writers' Block

The placement of the apostrophe in our name is not a mistake. Our block belongs to all, whether just passing through or taking up residency — everyone is welcomed.

The Writers’ Block is here for all who have ever asked the question, “Do I have something to say?” It is here to give emerging, established, and amateur writers a forum to create and explore without inhibition; to give emerging, established, and amateur actors a place to interpret, perform, and shine; and to give emerging, established, and amateur human beings a place to be — or not to be.

Through a yearly schedule of gatherings and events, both set and spontaneous, The Writers’ Block will be a performance and showcase opportunity for all at MCS, but most importantly, it will be a community.

There’s plenty of room, and the rent is free, so come unblock on The Writers’ Block.
